Creating Your Own Parking Bays
Anyone who runs a business knows that parking is one of the bugbears of modern life. No matter where your business is and what it does, you need to have delineated spaces for your customers and visitors to park without hassle.
When you are organising your car park, you must give careful consideration to parking spaces for people with disabilities. Accessible spaces demonstrate that you are aware of legislation relating to disabled people and that you are a welcoming organisation for everyone.
Parking bay benefits
When you provide car parking spaces for your employees, your customers and other visitors, you are not only saving people money that they might otherwise have to pay to a local authority or private car park that charges, but you are also encouraging your clientele by making their visits easy and cost-free. It’s also a boon to your employees who need a car for their work, and it means they don’t have to add additional costs to their working days and weeks. Convenience for your customers, visitors and workers can help boost your business and thus your bottom line.
Legislation
Though there is no specific legislation as to the size of car parking spaces, there is a recommended standard parking space size of 2.4 metres wide and 4.8 metres long. Keep in mind that modern cars are in general much bigger than when this standard was set down, so you should take this into consideration when organising your bays.
You also need to consider wider bays for people who have disabilities and need extra space to get in and out of their cars, and if you have vans that need to be parked, you also need to allow additional space. However, you should be aware that car parks that have up to 200 bays have to, by law, have disabled bays for each disabled employee as well as a minimum of two additional bays or 5% of the total car park, whichever is the greatest.
Creating your parking bays
You can easily create your own parking bay spaces with kits that include everything you need. This will prevent you having to pay a contractor and ensures you have all the equipment you need when spaces need retouching or adding, saving your business money in the long run. A full kit will give you what is required both for visitors and for disabled parking requirements.
For disabled parking, you can get:
- A Disabled Parking Only sign
- A 1.75m high grey sign post
- A baseplate and end cap with two clips
- A stencil for the disabled parking bay
- Special paint and an edge applicator
- A stencil for straight line parking
- A stiff broom with an aluminium brush handle
Kits are designed for easy use, and full instructions are supplied.
For visitor parking, the kit is similar to the disabled parking one, with plenty of paint to produce up to 75 metres of lines and the appropriate signs so that visitors know exactly where they can park. Take a look at our full range of Parking Bay Kits and
